WORLD DAY OF REMEMBERRANCE – WDoR2022
For the eighth time in a row, it is also organized in Kosovo
This year the spotlight is on JUSTICE
As every year, the objectives of WDoR2022 are to provide a platform to support road traffic victims and their families to Remember all the people who lost their lives and were seriously injured in road accidents.
Acknowledging and welcoming the essential work of the emergency services:
Drawing attention to the legal responsibilities of the guilty in cases of death and injury from road accidents.
Advocating for evidence-based action to prevent or eventually stop deaths and injuries from road accidents.
Every year, millions of road casualties are added to the current toll of over 50 million dead and hundreds of millions injured since the first road death 125 years ago—a scourge that continues day by day in all countries of the world. It is a real pandemic, which primarily affects our vulnerable and our youth, which, in addition to the trauma of injury and loss of family members, also has a devastating economic impact on countries, communities and families. Therefore, during the new Decade of Action 2021-2030, World Day will play an important role in helping to achieve the target of reducing road casualties by 50%.
WDoR2022 – Justice
Enforcement of traffic laws, thorough investigation of accidents, to find out if a crime has been committed and prevent it from happening again, prosecution and civil compensation are all part of the justice system. When implemented seriously, fairly and consistently, such a system is what road accident victims who have been injured or lost a family member as a result of someone else’s wrongdoing or negligence deserve and want, as it also it represents a key factor in prevention, and this means that lessons are learned from their tragedies so that they do not happen again.
The marking of these activities in Kosovo is coordinated by the Kosovo Association of Motorization AMRKS (www.amrks.org) and the Tempulli Academy (www.tempulli.org). AMRKS is a member of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims FEVR. As in other years, the activities are supported by the Kosovo Police, the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, the Municipality of Pristina, the Kosovo Insurance Bureau, The Institute for Road Safety and Transport Research, Blood Transfusion – Kosovo, media etc.
The activities are also supported by the partners of the Kosovo Forum for Road Safety and the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo.
