Activities to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

The third Sunday of November marks the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims. This day is marked to remember the millions of people who die in traffic accidents, but also for support to families of the victims.
This year the Kosovo Police, OSCE, College of Applied Sciences ‘Tempulli’ (as well as the Kosovo WDR official link), AMRKS and KUSA held activities to mark the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims.
Day I (17 November 2016)- Throughout the day, the Working Group was present in the print and visual media to discuss on the purpose of the marking of this day and also on the current road safety situation and action plan for improvement of the current situation. These interviews were a good opportunity to sensitize the public opinion about the importance of the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims and the manner of engaging of each road participant in these activities.
Day II (18 November 2016)- The Working Group in cooperation with the Red Cross and the Blood Transfusion Centre were located in “Zahir Pajaziti” square in Prishtina. In this case, many citizens donated blood for the persons injured in traffic accidents.
Day III (19 November 2016)- The Working Group together with many citizens lit candles near the National Theatre in Prishtina in honour of the victims who lost their lives in traffic accidents. Simultaneously, during this time there were also some video spots broadcasted which aim the awareness-raising of all participants for a good and responsible driving behaviour.
Day IV (20 November 2016)- The penultimate event this year was the International Conference to mark the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims, which was attended by numerous representatives of local and regional institutions. This conference was a good opportunity to discuss the road safety situation which is present in our country and give recommendations for actions to be taken for the improvement of the current situation.
The activities were concluded with a memorial march in the city centre to honour all those who have died as a result of traffic accidents. Conference participants and many citizens were present there.
